Not sure how practical it is to cut subsidies for loans right now given the problems many students are having with those. I’d be all for returning to our old model of just funding the damn universities directly with taxes rather than the current subsidized-student-as-consumer model. However, that would need to be analyzed separately from this, I think, particularly because, depending on the size of the initial outlay, these new universities will need operational funds.
