Capturing, Saving and Sharing Thanksgiving Memories

It’s that time of year again — my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving! This year, it’s my turn to host Thanksgiving, and as my family’s Chief Memory Officer, I am in charge of recording the Thanksgiving memories as parents, grandparents, siblings and lots of nieces and nephews arrive. I will take videos of chaos and celebration as my family makes memories.
Every Thanksgiving, we follow a bit of a routine. For sure, I know we will expect my grandmother, mom and sister to debate amongst themselves how to cook the turkey and praise each other’s culinary skills. Pop-Pop will sneak in and out of the kitchen to taste a little bit of everything and then take his pre-dinner nap. My kids, along with their many cousins, will argue amongst themselves which movie to watch and what iPad games to play. My husband, and anyone else in our family who lives and breathes by football on Thanksgiving, will spend most of their time in the den, only to emerge when the turkey is ready.
In the past, the adults would scramble to find their mobile phones and cameras to record the events of the day. And of course, after a long day of cooking, eating and cleaning, we promise to send each other our videos and photos, but as happens more often than not, we forget… so weeks later, maybe we’ll post and share on Facebook. But then a few months go by, and we can’t find that recording, that special memory.
