McGregor Vs Mayweather🥊: How can we apply the story to our own success?

This big fight between Conor and Floyd happened last night. I’m not going to act like an expert in the story because I can honestly say this is the first boxing match where I went out of my way to watch. When I Reflect on the fight and the whole build up a few things stuck out to me and it gave me great respect to both fighters…
Reach for the stars not the clouds:
McGregor told the world he could transfer from MMA to boxing. Not only did he believe he could achieve this, he believed with his whole soul that he could beat one of the most successful boxers ever in his debut. He didn’t settle for working his way up the ranks. He demanded the fight with the best and talked Floyd to taking up his challenge. This opportunity to stack up against the Mayweather would never have happened if he didn’t reach for stars. It’s a perfect example that if you reach for the absolute top and set somewhat extreme and unrealistic goals, even if you lose, you still might quadruple your net worth….
Work Ethic is Everything:
Once Conor demanded the fight, he spent the next however many months training absolutely non-stop to prepare himself. I only saw what I saw via Insta but McGregor was putting in work! And not just work, but specific! There was no way he would have a chance if he stuck to his old training methods. He was specific with his training, he focused on his strengths of getting in close and back out with speed and precision; as a result, he went 10 rounds with the greatest. Regardless of how much talent or how extreme your goals are, you won’t achieve shit without work ethic. There’s no secret to that. Work hard AND work smart!
Experience is the Best Teacher:
McGregor said it himself after the fight, Floyd had 49 other pro fights to prepare him for this battle. Floyd was tactical, took his experience and applied it to the younger McGregor. Floyd played the game of boxing as opposed to just fighting; waiting for Conor to tire himself out before firing back. It makes perfect sense that McGregor lost due to this. If we want to be great at anything, we have to practice the thing itself. Want to be a great athlete? You can spend all the hours training and working out, but if you don’t play the sport you have no chance.
Age is No Excuse:
Most McGregor fans and Conor himself thought he had the advantage because he was 12 or so years younger than Mayweather. Yet, who was the one gassed by round 9? Not Floyd! In fact, Floyd didn’t even look phased in the later round but instead found his fire by this point. For everyone who thinks they are too old for anything- you are wrong. Your limit is in your mind, not your body. Don’t use age as an excuse to start.
Be Humble:
The thing I was more interested to see than the fight itself was the post-fight interview. What I loved about both athletes is their humility. Floyd knew he was the better athlete and made that clear, but he had nothing but praise for for McGregor. He showed admiration for his effort and talent with little experience. The same was with Conor. In the face of defeat he showed great respect for Mayweather, he was grateful for the opportunity and to be honest, he knew exactly why he lost and was already looking to the future. Win or lose, he acted like a champion. From this we can all learn something; sometimes you can’t control an outcome, but you can always control how you react. You can choose to blame and gloat or you can be humble and respectful.
So, while many of you are so caught in the results of the fight, take a second to truly appreciate 2 great athletes and admire what they both offer to their sport and the world. We don’t see what it took to get them to this point, but their mind set and approach to life is something we can all take on board into our own lives.
