Homework 2/9
I learned from this article the importance of analyzing the source of your information. Depending on the organization, the article or reference could have a biased viewpoint. Also, it is important to look for what type of organization the information came from.
For example, if the information came from an individual, it is important to check their authority on the subject before assuming the credibility of the piece. Regarding non profit or activist organizations, these websites often contain highly biased opinions. Checking the organization is important to helping author credibility in media writing.
I also learned about the different types of websites. Many different formats exist including personal pages, professional and commercial pages. These pages all serve distinct purposes and it is important to check the purpose in order to determine credibility and accuracy.
Finally, it is important to analyze the URL of a website. Organizations such as universities and the government have their own distinct domain names. By looking at a URL you can determine the source of the information.
Altogether, credibility can be determined by looking at the organization, website type, and the URL. By examining these key aspects, you can decipher the credibility and authority of these sources. Presenting credible documentation helps media writers pursue accuracy and honesty when reporting.
