Eye of the Hawk Imperial Ale by Medocino Brewing

IT’S THE THRILL OF THE FIGHT RISIN’ UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF OUR RIVAL!!!!!

Had to do it. Eye of the Hawk American Strong Ale is brewed by Mendocino Brewing Company in Norther California. This beer has 8.00% ABV and 40 IBU’s. Now that the boring stuff is out of the way we can get down to the nitty gritty. This beer is categorized as an American Strong Ale which is a whole lot of hooplah to say that it doesn’t really fit into all of the other categories. Really. IPA’s are brought together by their hoppyness and stouts their roasty chocolate coffeeness. American Strong ales are just ales with a bit higher ABV than normal and thats it. They can do whatever they want at that point. This particular beer has a nice rich copperish colar almost like the birdy on the label. 40 IBU’s gives this a slight bitterness that is almost hard to find. At the very end you will get a longer finish than most beers that is reminiscent of some IPA’s.

This is a really big beer and that requires an equally big meal. You aren’t eating celery sticks with this thing. If you are in the mood to go all out try portobello mushrooms over a steak and a baked potato. Something rich and heavy will go great with this huge beer. Mushrooms or caramelized onions would also pair well with the caramel notes in the ale. Just remember this has 8% alcohol so go easy and drink responsibly. Let us know how you like it.
