I Like Turtles
Plastic is a problem in the society we live in. As far as materials go, its amazing. Light strong and easy to produce are all godsends. The problem is that it doesnt go away. Plastic lasts forever, even when exposed to harsh elements. This is a problem for the animals in nature because we dump our trash in their homes. Many different kinds of wildlife have been negatively affected by plastic that has been dumped by us humans.
The reason the problem has lasted so long is because businesses don’t want to switch to ulterior materials because they are simply more expensive. It’s sad what happens to the turtles that get stuck in the plastic rings that hold soda or beer cans. However that isn’t really reason enough to just switch anything up. There needs to be a legitimate reason to change.
Enter stage left we have Saltwater Brewery from Florida that came up with a great idea and is currently making it happen. They have created an alternative to the plastic ring holders. Their ipa is now held with a biodegradable and EDIBLE (for animals) mixture of what the brewery doesn’t use in the beer. The leftover pieces of wheat and grain and whatnot. The brewery has said this is actually more expensive than plastic but not by all that much. They said they would also like to set an example for some of the other breweries and hopefully get them to follow suit. This innovation is a great start toward more preservation of you know, that place we live. It also might quiet a few of the hippies for a while so out of this whole endeavor that may very well be the most useful. If you can find this beer get it and let us know how it is. It’s from Florida so we are unlikely to have the pleasure here on the west coast but fingers crossed.
