Weihenstephaner Korbinian. Dear Lord is that a mouthful. And thankfully they beer stands up to it’s own name. Wouldn’t that be awkward, if it didn’t. It does. It has a score of more than 90 on beer advocate, if that gives you a hint as to how great this beer really is. Korbinian is a doppelbock, which is a fancy way of saying its gunna be a big one. Bock is typically just means stronger, darker, (faster stronger) no but really bock is like saying its not small. Dopple means double. So you know a doppelbock will more than likely pack a punch and this one absolutely does.
The abv of this beer is 7.40% which is pretty strong for a foreign beer. That amount won’t really raise any eyebrows here in AMERICA with our obsession with making things bigger stronger better and all around more in your face. But hey, we can’t all be winners. Did you know they give medals and trophy’s to kids whether they win or lose? I tell you, what is happening to this country. Regardless of that sad fact, this beer is definitely deserving of a trophy.
The darkness (or dankness) in this beer will come from a lot of toasted malt and earthy overtones yet it also brings notes of plum and fig to the table. This beer is perfect for drinking in the middle of winter next to a fire waiting for Santa. Baby it IS cold outside… Run down to your local bevmo and pick this up. Trust me, you will be doing yourself a favor.
Now when you drink this beer, you should eat too. Eating is good. Beer is almost always made better with food and this big dobblebock doubly so. Try some smoked meat and heavy dishes like potatoes and dark greens. The smoked parts of a meat dish will bring out some of the toasted aspects of the malt that will be like tasting a symphony in your mouth. If you ever wanted to experience synesthesia like every little kid does after watching ratatouille, pick this up and have a go.
