Personally, I would recommend folks not use the Kindle App and instead buy/read physical books. That way you can take margin notes. But I find that there are additional benefits to reading a physical book, it can a) trigger your memory when you see it lying around your house and b) seeing words on a physical page can help you remember specific passages simply by their location in the text. They’re much more easily referenced than a small thumbnail on a screen that might get buried or forgotten.
I realize that not everyone will take that advice and that its’ not practical or possible for some. So in that case, I would recommend using something like the Fast Book Outliner to make physical notes alongside your digital book https://davidseah.com/node/the-fast-book-outliner/. I’ve never used it before, but it would seem helpful in that situation.
