You’re absolutely right — this is a supply/demand problem where there’s more content than one person could ever read or want to read, and thus, it’s being given away for free.

The difference though (regardless of how you feel about my personal writing) is that the “supply” you’re referring to (for the most part) is made of a “bad” content. Great writing and clickbait listacles are lumped into the same camp.

No one would should pay for crap clickbait that takes 10 minutes to write, but people doing real journalism should be rewarded for the hours/weeks/months they put into researching and writing their stories — however, the online, ad-based economy makes that difficult.
