I’ve been thinking about this a lot since the first “Fuck Off Fund” post came about.
As a man, I know there are probably a lot fewer “Fuck off” situations I’ll have to deal with. But as a person of my generation, money always seems like such an impossibility.
In my freelancing days, a $500 check was all it took between a good and bad month. Credit debt went through the roof.
And once you have a nice layer of credit card debt laid down, it seems like just a fact of life. Pay the minimum and hope for the best. To get out of debt and save enough for anything can take YEARS (as her chart points out), so money just seems like that impossible thing
Today, circumstances are very different for me. But I still have friends who are coming out of grad school with little income lined up. Or those who were told to “follow your passion” and not given much else in terms if guidance.
Money: necessary, but really dumb.
