Draft projection

When assessing Howard’s potential in the draft, his defensive development and the scheme in which he will be utilized are key factors. If there is doubt about his ability to improve defensively or fit into a specific scheme, he may become a rotation player known for floor spacing but lacking in defensive contributions and overall impact on the stat sheet beyond scoring. However, if there is confidence in his defensive growth, he could emerge as a valuable starter. With his versatile shooting off the dribble and movement, he possesses a high offensive ceiling, especially when combined with his passing and playmaking abilities on the move. The scheme he enters will greatly influence his success. Placing him in a heliocentric offense reliant on high ball screens and limited movement may not maximize his potential. However, a system emphasizing ball and off-ball movement, incorporating dribble handoffs and creative offensive actions, would enable him to thrive due to his shooting on the move, ball handling in downhill situations, and solid passing vision. The goal is for him to become an impactful player akin to Kevin Huerter, who has become a highly valued asset for the Kings. Nevertheless, his defensive improvement remains crucial, and my assessment is slightly more conservative than the consensus due to this factor.

He could be a top-ten pick in the modern NBA, but his improvement areas could prevent Howard from making consistent impact, yet.
