Chivalry is a… weird and pointless way to show you like someone. When I think of chivalry I imagine a man holding/opening a door for a pretty girl, giving her your coat, etc. These are all universal nice things to do for anyone, and thats why only doing these things for a girl you like doesn’t really show you for who you really are. It actually kinda makes you an asshole (“i only hold doors for pretty girls”).Being nicer to someone cause you like them is a pretty normal response, but doing it to the chivalrous excess is kind of condescending and creepy. What I mean by that is chivalry can be seen as a transaction. By doing nice things for her, she owes you affection. Where she should, instead, give you affection if she likes the type of person you are, not if you can hold 13 different types of doors open for her. She can only find out who you really are by spending time with you and talking with you. So, to me, chivalry is pointless when it comes to love.
