Ezra Klein is the Alex Jones of the Left
The neoliberal establishment is in a tizzy about President Elect Donald J. Trump’s executive appointments. While pundits and elites maintain that fake news and propaganda only comes from the right, they fail to recognize their contribution. Ezra Klein created Vox as a platform to “Explain the News.” Instead, he went from editorializing to complaining using journalism as a guise. The latest example of fake news from Klein (also known as propaganda) comes in the wake of Trump’s appointment of General Michael Flynn. The hypocrisy from the left about The President Elect Transition is proving worse than expected.
In August, former CIA director Michael Morell endorsed Hillary Clinton in an op-ed for the New York Times. Morell, former acting director of the C.I.A. from 2010–2013, suggested “Donald J. Trump is not only unqualified for the job, but he may well pose a threat to our national security.” Unfortunately, the New York Times failed to disclose pertinent information regarding his tenure.
Mr. Morell is well known for his defense of torture. As acting director of the CIA, he advised Colin Powell to invade Iraq. Morell admitted to Chris Matthews on Meet the Press that he presented inaccurate intelligence and fed false information that led to the invasion of Iraq.
MORELL: We were saying —
MATTHEWS: Can you answer that question? Was that true?
MORELL: That’s not true.
MATTHEWS: Well, why’d you let them get away with it?
MORELL: Look, my job Chris —
MATTHEWS: You’re the briefer for the president on intelligence, you’re the top person to go in and tell him what’s going on. You see Cheney make this charge he’s got a nuclear bomb and then they make subsequent charges he knew how to deliver it…and nobody raised their hand and said, “No that’s not what we told him.”
MORELL: Chris, Chris Chris, what’s my job, right? My job —
MATTHEWS: To tell the truth.
MORELL: My job — no, as the briefer? As the briefer?
MATTHEWS: Okay, go ahead.
MORELL: As the briefer, my job is to carry CIA’s best information and best analysis to the president of the United States and make sure he understands it. My job is to not watch what they’re saying on TV.
MATTHEWS: So you’re briefing the president on the reasons for war, they’re selling the war, using your stuff, saying you made that case when you didn’t. So they’re using your credibility to make the case for war dishonestly, as you just admitted.
MORELL: Look, I’m just telling you —
MATTHEWS: You just admitted it.
MORELL: I’m just telling you what we said —
MATTHEWS: They gave a false presentation of what you said to them.
MORELL: On some aspects. On some aspects.
Yet this was a man Hillary Clinton was planning on appointing to a top role in national security. His op-ed for the New York Times was the deciding factor for many of the national security experts who signed the letter to oppose President Elect Trump. Much like the New York Times omitted details of Mr. Morell’s background, I am sure that had Sec. Clinton won the presidency, neoliberals would have followed suit.
Fast forward to President Elect Trump’s November 2016 announcement appointing General Michael Flynn to his cabinet. Neoliberal’s can’t help themselves when it comes to attacking every appointment Trump makes. Instead of praising Gen Flynn for his original thinking, Vox, the NYT, the AP has taken it upon themselves to label Flynn as a Russian stooge.
Meanwhile, had Sec. Clinton won, no one would have complained about her cabinet and her connections to pro-war think tanks and lobbyists.
Mike Morell called for the escalation of sanctions “that bite” on Iran in response to their “malign behavior in the region.” In otherwords: provoke Iran and in what would be a dramatic escalation of U.S. power in the region, he called for intercepting Iranian vessels traveling to Yemen to supply weapons to Houthi rebels.
“I know there’s issues of international law here, Ships leave Iran on a regular basis carrying arms to the Houthis in Yemen. … I would have no problem, from a policy perspective, of having U.S. Navy board those ships and if there’s weapons on them for the Houthis, turn those ships around and send those ships back to Iran. I think that’s the kind of action, tough action that would get the attention of the Iranians and will get the attention of our friends in the region to say the Americans are now serious about helping us deal with this problem.”
In a 2014 email, she advocates for a strategy that makes no sense. (Let’s not forget the thread and subject matter of the email was changed in an apparent cover up. One month after the original email was sent and right after Clinton had to turn over her documents, Podesta replies to the e-mail with an innocent congratulations about the birth of HRC granddaughter — nevermind that the original email contained classified information, but since the Clintons had attorneys sorting emails to divide personal from business — the cover up is clear)
One has to wonder that if Hillary Clinton won the presidency if her appointees would draw the same ire as President Elect Trump. Instead of taking responsibility, neoliberals continue to shift responsibility and blame “others” for their faults. We should be relieved we voted them out of office and a true patriot will occupy the White House.
