That’s a bit like saying when a CPA and a mechanic decide to open an Auto customization & accessories shop, the accountant needs to learn to tune cars and drop suspensions first. No. Co-founders bring domain expertise. Depending on the line of business and industry, there is likely to be other technical bits to business and more to running a company than just coding (not that coding is not important).
So if you are the CPA (non-technical partner in this example), you definitely need a strong mechanic/engineering type as a co-founder. If you are the coding Jedi, you need to decide if the business primarily needs another techie co-founder, or if you need a co-founder that brings other (technical/business) skills to the party that you do not have.
