Four Myths About Silicon Valley
Before coming to Silicon Valley I had four myths about Internet entrepreneurs in my mind. All four have been proven wrong within the first few hours of my stay.
Internet Start-Up entrepreneurs are in their mid-twenties: wrong - they are now of any age all driven by the passion to create something new, something exciting.
No women are entrepreneurs: (A bit) wrong - I see more and more women creating their start-ups or being part of a founding team. Still, it is very comparable to classical music where the industry is too male dominated.
Silicon Valley has never heard about classical music: wrong - It is amazing to see how many hard core tech guys like classical music, played an instrument and even have family or friends who are professional musicians.
Internet entrepreneurs want to become billionaires: mostly wrong - most entrepreneurs I have met so far are driven by an immense passion for their product. Yes, at some point they do want to make some money. But launching a product which the world wants is much more important than the pay-off at the end.
