European Handicap: everything you need to know!
We know that you already dominate the Asian Handicap (AH) market, one of the most used markets in the sports predictions universe, but today we are going to explain everything about the other case of an advantage or disadvantage attribution when submitting a prediction: the European Handicap.
First of all, you must know that the European Handicap differs from the Asian in three key points:
• Doesn’t allow refunds;
• Provides three chances to bet on (1 x 2), rather than just two;
• The margins of advantage / disadvantage don’t present decimal values.
More chances to get it right!
Nevertheless, the process happens in the same way — in each game or sports event there is always a team or athlete that is favorite to win and another less likely to win (also called underdog). The Handicap concept consists of the attribution of positive/ negative margins to the underdog and to the favorite, levelling a confrontation that is unbalanced from the start.
In the case of football, for instance, the Handicap requires the attribution of advantage or disadvantage goals to the team in which we bet on. In other words, we add the numeric value related to the Handicap to that team and verify if our prediction was a winner or not!
Practical example …
Let’s take as an example the friendly game Portugal vs. Bulgaria, which was played just a few days ago. Let’s imagine the following lines referring to the European Handicap market — also called as 3-Way Handicap or Results Handicap — giving disadvantage to the favorite and an advantage to the underdog: Portugal -1 | Draw -1 | Bulgaria + 1
• By betting on the chance Portugal -1, you only win if Portugal wins with a difference of at least two goals. The draw or a Portuguese victory by the minimum makes you lose the bet.
• If your prediction is Draw -1, you’ll win if Portugal wins with a one goal difference, whereas any other result will not succeed.
• If your prediction is Bulgaria +1, you win the bet in the case of a draw or if Bulgaria wins the game. If Portugal wins, you lose …
Simple, isn’t it? Now that you know everything about the European Handicap, put your knowledge into practice: enter Betarena and make your predictions in this market.
