We have to start with the “why” of learning for the student before we push for any one given pedagogical model for it. Before we criticize models with higher attrition, like MOOCs, or more rote assessment, like certification courses, we should be clear about which students want what from different types of learning, right? Further, we should also take into account student choice and preference as to how they want to learn .I suspect AltMBA is the perfect fit for some. For others — say, working parents looking to increase a knowledge base, get certified in a new skill set, or just explore a new topic area or idea — maybe attrition isn’t the measure to gauge value by. We need choice, options, entry points, and clarity about what we’re offering for whom and how and why.
