Empower startup cities for better urban future

I’m dreaming to build a supporting platform for startup cities.

Some small cities are trying to be better, let’s call them “startup cities”.

World is changing rapidly.

Population grows sharply. In a single day, 210,000 people increase.

Even though it is expected that China will turn to decrease its total population from 2025, the world’s total population will keep increasing especially in Asia, India, and Africa.

In large cities, we see congestions anywhere. Are large cities enough strong to hold this sharply increasing population? In 1950, there were just 2 cities that have more than 10 Million population. In 2025, more than 30 cities will.

On the other hand, we pay a lot of money to travel to small cities, just to stay, just to breath. In this connected world, are there still any reasons we need to gather to live in mega cities?

What if we can live in small cities, with same quality of education, medical care, and public services?

Why cities all need to have their own administration? Can’t we connect them to maximize the efficiency and reduce its cost, to meet economics of scale?

Generally, small cities do not have power right now. Talented people tend to move to large cities for more opportunities. Small cities cannot afford to hire expensive consultants. The more the world changes, the more disparity of speed occurs.

But global competitiveness is not only for large cities. Technologies are already there. The problem is not in solutions but in implementation. And if we wish to do so or not.

Most of startup cities face similar trouble, most of them have similar questions. Some city in the world may already have solution and answer. “The startup cities platform” just like venture capital support startup IT ventures, will provide best practice, package of education program, so that the startup cities can grow as fast as they can, even faster than bulky large cities, which will result in their competitive edges. Alliance of small cities will open the possibility for high quality living in the natural environment, and ease too much concentration.

We cannot solve problems at once. But running and thinking, trying and monitoring, reviewing and adopting can make it better.

It’s high time to empower startup cities for better urban future.

Let’s empower startup cities to survive 21st century.
