I am single at 51 and after 30 some years of R&D in finding “the one,” I finally realize this is where I am happiest, fulfilled, challenged, peaceful,… I was divorced in my 20s, a few long term relationships and recently have dated for 10 years. Obviously, none of them flipped my trigger enough to stay, but I kept searching. Maybe societal pressure, maybe it’s fun to be pursued, maybe the fantasy overrode reality,… I didn’t find anyone adding more joy to my life than I was bringing to myself. I’ve traveled the world alone, built a business (that takes a team), built a farm, built friendships, pursued hobbies, helped the community,… It’s been grand! It’s inspiring to know that Jane Austen, Oprah, Da Vinci, Condoleezza Rice, Diane Keaton, the Wright Brothers and many others were or are single. Maybe being single means we can bring more to the world. I am now searching for my next true companion — a dog.
