What role can we play, as men and women, to promote gender equality?

We continue our blog series exploring some of the social causes BeyondMe teams are working on, and that you can support.

This week we are looking at gender equality:

The problem in numbers:

  • One in three women and girls worldwide will experience
violence in their lifetime. (Global Citizen)
  • Only 25% of FTSE 100 directorships are held by women. (BoardWatch)
  • 26th — The UK’s ranking in the Global Gender Gap Report. (Global Gender Gap Report)

Solving the problem

Emma Watson, UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, launches the HeForShe campaign:

What can you do?

We have innovative charities in our portfolio working on promoting gender equality. Here are a couple of examples of who you could work with:

The Girls’ Network matches girls from low socio-economic backgrounds with inspirational female mentors from all walks of life. Their mission is to raise aspirations and remove the barriers from these young girls’ path to success.

Maternity Worldwide saves lives in childbirth. They use an integrated approach to address the issues which prevent women and their babies accessing safe and appropriate childbirth. They have worked in 11 developing countries since 2002.
