These are the principles:
- Nuetrality of the blockchain is not optional. Regardless of the meaning or intent of a contract on the blockchain, if the verification mechanism of the blockchain (the EVM) executes properly then the outcome of the execution will stand under all circumstances without exception. Ever. Users and creators of contracts should know that they face actual risk and should make decisions about participation accordingly.
- Censorship should be opposed at all costs. Regardless of the meaning or content of a transaction, no transaction will ever be censored and efforts to blacklist users, addresses or contracts will always be ignored or actively opposed by the community. This extends to all use cases including those considered immoral or illegal. Based on that same principle we as a community do not censor voices or label dissenters as trolls.
- Science is the guiding principle of decisions made to improve the platform. We do not rush technical decisions in order to be first to market, instead we wait until we have proper evidence to make decisions whose priority is always to provide security, immutability and censorship resistance.
- Token value is a means not an ends. This project will be a success if it provides enough security to host useful applications and the token value remains small. While we do not deny human nature we believe that the greatest long term value will come from providing long term security and trust rather than speculative value. So this community agrees to make the best long term decisions and to discount projections of token value or user participation from all decisions. As a result the community highly discourages token value projections and efforts to recruit speculators. We regard hype and pumping as toxic. This is a Field of Dreams, “If you build it they will come.”
- We seek to be independent of centralized development. Therefor the community will not blindly follow decisions made by developers but evaluate them carefully based on science and consensus.
