I find it interesting that male coders must somehow be coerced and tricked into accepting a proposed feature change. Wouldn’t a quality employee listen to the potential change, debate its merits and drawbacks, consider time and cost, and overall benefit? After all that, then consider making the change?
Why do men need to be tricked into believing anything?
In this customer’s request, I hear the myth of the lone wolf genius hiding in his ivory tower. He only sees his minions when they approach with proper humility and tribute. Then he dismisses them with a wave of his hand. No one can understand the genius being created by him.
We all know this myth is not conducive to long term company viability in any setting. Yet, so many cling to its comfortable nature because it passes accountability to another.
Is this account worth it to the company? Or is this post just another reason to hate men and the “bro culture?” Can we just cut the umbilical chord of fascination with Sillicon Valley and build our own startup reality? There’s plenty of money out there.
