Today, I’ll give you the 2 main Diffuse strategies on

How To Promote A TEDx Talk

and the framework in each strategy

Diffuse Strategy 1: Drive traffic of well known audience in the first 48 hours

The audience here are people who know you very well, like you and trust you, as they will be

excited to watch your TEDx talk,

proud of you and happy to share your talk with their friends,

and will most likely like and comment on your YouTube TEDx video.

There are 3 groups of people here that will help you increase the views of your TEDx talk:

  • all your networks and individuals, including celebrities and mini-influencers,
  • your email list and the email list of people you know, who have big email lists
  • your social media profiles

The truth is that most of the people start with posting on their social media, where actually that is the least effective from the 3 above. Only about 10–15% of your followers will click on the link and follow your Call to Action to watch your TEDx talk and share it.

Therefore,

⚠️ Make sure you execute this strategy in the exact sequence as above.

Make a list of all networks and people you know and blast that list!

All 3 groups above work for TEDx talks that are just published on YouTube, as well as those published few months ago or long time ago and need a boost.

Diffuse Strategy 2: Drive traffic of cold audience

Time-wise the preparation of this strategy happens before your TEDx is uploaded on the TED platform, as it includes all SEO elements that has to be added to your TEDx video:

  • Title that has key words that are trendy or/and with big following and views
  • Topic, i.e. the best key word that describes your TEDx topic in one word
  • 6 tags, i.e. 6 more key words that don’t repeat those from your Title and Topic
  • 3 hashtags — another 3 key words, not used above

Although the preparation of these SEO elements happens before the upload of your TEDx video the actual use starts 48 hours after the upload of your video. That is when YouTube will pick them all up and use them to identify cold audience. The engine will show your video to complete strangers thanks to these SEO elements in the “Suggested for you” feed. The more SEO key words you use the more YouTube will know who to show your video to.

What is important to know here is that

Diffuse Strategy 2 will kick in only if you applied Diffuse Strategy 1 in the first 48 hours after TEDx publishing. YouTube will wait your video to gain some views (1,000+) before it picks it up.

If your TEDx talk has been already uploaded without the SEO elements above, you won’t be able to use the Diffuse Strategy 2. Sadly, once published your video can’t be amended. You will need to compensate with Diffuse Strategy 1.

Put in the comment below which step of the TEDx journey you are on at the moment? What do you need to know to progress quickly and move to the next phase? I’ll add it in my next articles.
