I would love to know why crops have such a different taste in the US compared to Europe.

There are very few GMOs that you’d find in the form of fresh produce (Rainbow Papaya, squash, and sweet corn are the only ones currently on the market). Consequently, it’s unlikely that differences in flavor of fresh produce between US and Europe would be due to GMOs. As Charles Rader pointed out, there are many factors that impact the flavor of produce, including the variety grown and the distance/time from farm to table.
