Soup Delivery Nationwide — Julie Shipley is No Soup Nazi!
One of my favorite episodes of the NBC sitcom Seinfeld, aired during the seventh season, on November 2, 1995.
“The Soup Nazi” was Spike Feresten’s first credited Seinfeld episode as a writer. The idea for the episode arose when Feresten told Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David about a real life New York soup vendor Ali “Al Yeganeh”, who was nicknamed “The Soup Nazi.” Seinfeld and David laughed and said, “That’s a show. Do that as your first show.”
The now iconic episode featured a a Soup Shop with soup so good people lined up to buy it, even though they were subjected to the outrageous behavior and policies of the chef/owner, “The Soup Nazi”.
The Soup Nazi was known for refusing any customers who didn’t meet his approval.
Contrast that with Julie Shipley, owner of The Soup Shop in Melbourne, Florida.
Julie began making soup for a friend’s cafe. Her homemade creations were so well received she started supplying two dozen Central Florida restaurants with soups, bisque's and chowders.
Julie was curious as to whether there might also be a retail demand for her soup. She started offering the public limited quantities of soup from the confines of her small commercial kitchen.
Not only was there a demand, Julie’s delicious soups brought so many customers that her landlord complained about the overly crowded parking lot.
Julie’s next move was to open a retail location for The Soup Shop where she now offers seventy varieties of soup. Customers can dine in at the sidewalk cafe or take out soup by the quart.
Central Florida is the winter home of many “snow birds” who leave the cold temperatures, ice and snow of their northern homes for the tropical climate of Central Florida.
The snow birds enjoyed Shipley’s soups and wished there was a Soup Shop in their hometown.
Instead of franchising Shipley decided to offer nationwide soup delivery. Her local retail location is booming and her soup delivery business is warming the hearts and appetites of soup loves all across the USA.
The Soup Shop is located at 4100 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne FL 32935. (321) 622–6914.
