It has been 3 years since the launch of the Black Angel Group (BAG). What started as a group of Googlers on a mission to increase Black Googler representation in the angel investing ecosystem has developed into a vibrant and growing community of over 260 Black tech operators, from more than 50 different companies with a commitment to invest and elevate founders of all cultural backgrounds.

Our mission remains steadfast: To invest in high potential startups and add value leveraging our networks and expertise.

Over the past three years, the Black Angel Group has invested in 32 deals. Our average check size has grown 122% since inception, sparked by an increasing membership base and true excitement over the startups we have the opportunity to invest in.

“BAG has invested in a portfolio that reflects a commitment to innovation, co-investing alongside top tier firms such as Gaingels, Mac Ventures, GV, Gradient and A16z in companies such as Aster, LastMile AI, Status Pro and Syrup Tech,” remarks one of the leads Bonita Stewart, highlighting the group’s amazing partnerships.

John Higginson who leads the deal team, emphasizes the importance of intentional action in creating a more inclusive industry: “We must provide access and opportunities to those who have traditionally been untapped within the venture capital ecosystem,” he explains, “Our work is not just about investing in startups; it’s about paving the way for a more equitable future.”

Beyond our investments, the Black Angel Group is committed to education and mentorship. Through workshops, networking events, and strategic partnerships, we empower our members to expand their knowledge and skills in angel investing. “By demystifying the process and fostering a supportive community, we are cultivating the next generation of diverse investors and entrepreneurs. In an industry that lacks equitable representation of women, I’m excited to see and help contribute to the BAG membership consisting of 45% women, and Black investors across five continents,” says Jason Scott, one of the leaders of the membership committee.

As we celebrate three years of growth we recognize that our journey is far from over. With each investment, each partnership forged, we inch closer to a future where diversity is not just celebrated but embraced as a driving force for innovation. Together, we stand at the forefront of change, united in our commitment of creating a more inclusive and equitable tech ecosystem.

Join us as we write the next chapter of our story, together.
