5 Podcasts That Can Change Your Life

Back in 2005, I was a huge fan of The Ricky Gervais Show (with Karl Pilkington of course). It was so popular it consistently ranked as the number-one podcast in the world. Podcasts never really entered my mind again until a few years later, but when they did, they came as a lifeline.

Untalented, unskilled and unhappy, podcast’s helped renew my way of thinking and pull me back from an abyss. They fueled me with passion, drive, and hustle, but most importantly, taught me how (and why) I should be investing in myself.

There’s no doubt Ricky Gervais started a podcasting phenomenon, but since then, others have been plugging away, building upon this Medium. If you’re still reading this article then you’re here because you want to become your best self; you want to build a life you can be proud of. With a few clicks and a pair of headphones, you can.

The Joe Rogan Experience

The Joe Rogan Experience (dubbed JRE) is undoubtedly an innovator when it comes to mind-altering podcasts. Starting in 2009, long time comedian and UFC commentator Joe Rogan began interviewing close companions and friends.

Over the years, the show evolved into a psychedelic whirlwind, where an army of guests discuss philosophy & life, politics, technology, drugs, sex, depression, consciousness and everything in-between.

With over #753 episodes and counting, past guests have included Louis Theroux, Dana White, Lance Armstrong, Kevin Smith, Sam Harris, Graham Hancock, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Burr to name a few. However, arguably the most gripping episodes come from close friend and recurring guest — Duncan Trussell.

Rogan & friends are known for their in-depth discussion on the human psyche and use of psychedelic substances. From DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) and Weed, to Shrooms and Ayahuasca, Joe Rogan challenges what it means to be human, and what this shared experience called life has to offer.

The Tai Lopez Show

Health, wealth, love and happiness. The 4 pillars for living a fulfilled life, at least if you’re a follower of the Tai Lopez movement. The Grand Theory of Everything, infamous for exploring the minds of business leaders and billionaires.

Tai has a huge following and an equally huge backlash, but regardless of your thoughts on Tai, his network of socialites speaks for itself.

Listening to the Lopez show will guide you to new heights and turn your thoughts towards the gathering of knowledge, no matter what the cost.

The Model Health Show

Need to get your health in order? Shawn Stevenson is a genius boasting “11+ years of working with clients as one of the top Nutrition Experts in the country”. His show also featured as the no.1 Health and no.1 Fitness & Nutrition podcast on iTunes.

His in-depth episodes cover topics such as How To Create Healthy Habits For A Lifetime, High-Performance Nutrition and Living Lean and How To Be Fit Healthy and Harder To Kill.

Carefully breaking down health & fitness to a scientific level, while presenting information in an easy to listen to fashion, Shawn Stevenson’s model is one of the best health shows around.

The Tim Ferris Show

Self-described human guinea pig and Author of the 4-hour work week, Tim Ferriss didn’t launch his podcast until 2014, and in this short time he’s already hosted episodes with Billionaire investor Peter Thiel, god-like motivational speaker Tony Robbins, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Foxx and Edward Norton (if you’re only working 4 hours a week, you should make it count).

There’s more to the podcast than it’s star-studded lineup with Ferriss (in his usual manner) introducing listeners to new concepts and life hacks which are easily transferred over to daily life.

“Role models who push us to exceed our limits, physical training that removes our spare tires, and risks that expand our sphere of comfortable action are all examples of eustress — stress that is healthful and the stimulus for growth.” — Tim Ferriss.

We Study Billionaires

The Investors Podcast. Not for the faint hearted, nor for anyone looking for a quick fix or easy ride. A podcast that requires (a degree of) concentration, dedication and execution. A podcast that opens up the complexities of the financial world and presents them in a digestible manner — a feat few ever achieve.

On top of studying Billionaires and bull markets, Preston Pysh and Stig Brodersen are both active Value Investors.

“Value investing is at its core the marriage of a contrarian streak and a calculator.” — Seth Klarman

This particular type of investing is the same used by world famous investor Warren Buffet. Benjamin Graham is considered to be the father of Value Investing, by pioneering his method in the late 1800’s and writing the books Security Analysis and The Intelligent Investor. It’s no wonder the Oracle of Omaha (Buffet) was named the 3rd richest person in 2015— 72.7 Billion — as in his youth, Graham was his mentor at Columbia Business School.

The podcast does wonders at showing you what it takes to become an all-rounded investor. A podcast that forces you to re-assess your cash flow. An investing podcast that guides you through a jungle as you actively build your financial future.
