In one quote:

“An animal of no significance”

Sapiens makes sense of the world in a way that’s both striking and immediately familiar. Yuval Noah Harari uncurls a thread starting at the inception of the human species and weaving its way to today. On the way, Harari’s witty narrative takes us on a journey through the three major revolutions in sapiens history: Cognitive, Agricultural and Scientific, taking time to understand the kinds of life that existed and how they contributed to the state of the world we see today.

What strikes me most about Harari’s writing is how he doesn’t loose track of the big picture as he delves into the everyday minutiae of Homo Sapiens at different phases of evolution. His writing remains consistently authoritative, funny and devoid of pretentiousness.

Sapiens successfully turns the comical caveman into a relatable member of the species while putting us in our place as an infinitesimal dot on one of the largest timescales known to man.
