I understood that, my point was more about whether the Democratic position is centrist by European standards. Given how Democrats have recently fought to reduce restrictions on abortion in the third trimester, not to mention the second, they would seem to be rather to the left of the “European center” on this issue considering that restrictions after the first trimester are common there. On this issue the right in Ireland may be to the left of Republicans, but that doesn’t mean the Democrats aren’t still to the left of the average European (at least as represented by their laws).
