My Brief Advice For Internet-Loving Procrastinators

A principle I stand by through and through is the “just do it” motto. Nike knows what they’re on about. There are no secret, complex magic tricks that are going to instantly complete your to-do list by simply following war and peace sized handbooks disguised as hipster chicks’ super cool ebooks.

Productivity is a simple concept; do what needs to be done within an appropriate amount of time and do it well. However, we procrastinators love a good challenge, and creating various, meaningless roadblocks is the best way to switch a productive day into a living hell. Of course, roadblocks aren’t always created by us. Our colleagues, family members, pets, etc. are wonderful causes of procrastinating as well. My advice to annihilate these distractions is to find a quite place. Can’t manage that? Invest in some noise cancelling headphones. Here’s a pair I use daily.

Now that we’re all in a relatively healthy working environment, let’s talk about the only step you’ll need to accomplish beyond “just doing it,” eliminating the mother of all distractions, the INTERNET!

Removing all environmental noise doesn’t stop at turning off the TV and silencing your phone. It’s 2016, distractions have intensified. In fact, the internet is where a lot of people watch their tv and communicate with friends anyway. No internet is the way to go. It may be frustrating at first, but the results will speak for themselves.

Here’s How I Manage My Internet Time.

6am to 5pm: No internet. Writing articles, working on projects and working on jobs for clients that don’t require the web.

5pm to bedtime: Internet. Social media and website scheduling for the next day, arbitrary web surfing and googling to answer questions that arise through the day.
