Divorce or a breakup of a long term relationship is one of the most difficult times a person can experience. It does not matter if you were together one year or twenty years, it still affects you as a person. Starting over again can be scary because you are on your own again.
While this is a tough time, it does not last forever. Attitude is everything if you want to stay healthy, feel positive about yourself and gain your confidence back.
Here are some suggestions to start out on the right track:
- Take some time for yourself.
Purchase a journal and go someplace you enjoy and take time to write down what you love to do, what you have always wanted to do and what makes you different from everyone else. You will be surprised how much you learn about yourself.
2. Join a gym and commit to going to the gym.
When emotions are at a high level during this time, exercise can do wonders to motivate a person. Committing to your health is a big step in the right direction and it boosts your self confidence. Exercise also helps you focus on sometime positive which helps you with your emotions.
3. Take up a hobby, join a social group or enroll in a class.
Exploring your interests whether it be a hobby, social group or taking a class helps to provide a way to meet others and build lasting friendships.
4. When you are ready to date again, make a list of what you need.
One of the best pieces of advice is to never settle. You have the right to be particular in your dating choices. What was missing in your marriage or long term relationship that you needed? Make a list of what you need to be happy. You deserve someone who will be good to you and see your qualities.
