It’s no secret that social media presents a distorted view on reality. From altering our perceptions on how people actually live their lives to funneling propaganda, we live in an age where we can proudly disconnect from the real world.

Nowhere is this more relevant than the discourse around modern dating.

“Women only date men over 6 feet”

“If you don’t have 10 percent or less body fat, good luck”

You must achieve this level of status if you want to attract ‘quality’ women”

These are some of the ideas thrown around that promote the idea that men need to fill a certain amount of prerequisites if they want to succeed in the modern dating world.

Obviously, on the face of it, there is nothing wrong with working on yourself. In fact, I greatly encourage it. There’s little you can do to change your height, but you can sure workout and eat healthier as well as work harder at your job or pursue entrepreneurship.

The issue comes when men see this as a way to generalize about the dating scene. I can guarantee many men can actually do just fine dating today, but they choose to create these artificial barriers to excuse themselves.

Here is the simplest advice I can give you: go outside.

Go to the nearest city. Walk around. Observe the couples.

You’ll find 5'6 men with 5'9 women, sometimes almost polarizing physical attractiveness between the two, and variations in fitness levels. The point — there’s always plenty of exceptions to stereotypes we makes about attraction.

That’s why I always encourage men, above all, to live their lives. Engage with as many people as possible and do lots of interesting things. You’ll create your own aura that will attract the right people — both friends and lovers.

Don’t get stuck in the wormholes online or pity yourself because of some silly rationale in your head. You can do it. Put the effort in, and live the life you want to live. You’ll have the dating life you want and more.

Log off and go outside.
