Gary Clark Jr. learned to play the guitar when he was 12 years old. Clark grew up in Austin, Texas, and played small gigs until he met Clifford Antone, the owner of the Austin music club Antone’s and a producer.

Antone’s was where Jimmy and Stevie Ray Vaughan changed the way blues music was played at the time. Soon after meeting Clifford, Clark started to play with famous musicians like Jimmie Vaughan. Clark got help with his singing from Vaughan and other musicians in Austin.
