Cutting Edge Research on Food Security at UC Merced

UC Merced’s Blum Center for Alleviating Poverty and Social Disparities provides seed grants to both faculty and graduate students to advance food security.

The UC Merced Blum Center for Alleviating Poverty and Social Disparities recently announced the recipients of its Seed Grant competitions. Winners include faculty and graduate students from such departments as Public Health, Biological Sciences, Sociology, History and Engineering, among others.

The projects will explore such varying topics as — malnutrition among elderly populations, food access and risks for new refugees in the San Joaquin Valley, oral histories of Central Valley farm workers, and research into an autonomous rover to monitor irrigation pipe leakage.
