Diary of a Marketing Intern Week 7

Sept 16

Leading up to this weeks recording session I had been thinking about extending the content we were already using in the sessions. I had the idea that we could do something with autographs that the musician’s had been signing at the end of every shoot. My idea was to make a framed piece that incorporated a printed photograph along with the autograph and an excerpt from the artist’s interview blurbs. The image below is an example of the piece I had in mind. I encouraged the producer to hang onto the autographs with that idea in mind which she obliged to do.

As I saw this idea would be a costly production, instead of creating these pieces right away, I encouraged the producer to keep the autographs so that I could use them in the future if I found a viable market.

To explain how this was relevant to the DDCE course, I would say that my thought process of creating multiple alternative types of content from an original piece of content, was influenced by the Market Branding and Audience, module. We had been taught that several products could be made from a single subject, for example, the feature film Once had been adapted into a stage performance. Because the brand and audience had been built by the original film this was endorsed to the theatre production giving it a market. T-shirts that punk band The Ramones sold was their highest-earning product, and this is another example of our aforementioned principle in effect. I was applying the same logic to our recording sessions at Hear One, and reproducing content in different streams, for example, video interviews would be made text articles, the autographs and photographs would be turned into limited edition collectable framed prints and the audio tracks from the music videos would be amalgamated into a podcast.
