Evil Eye Bracelet (Raw Story)

Hello readers. This is just a quick morning doodle I wrote to get myself into the October mood so let me know if you enjoyed it. I don’t have much to say before getting into this 600 word story so let’s just jump right into it.

Sophie knocked the snow from her boots before entering. She could smell the turkey burning in the oven. She shouted to her mom that she was home but she didn’t get a response.
Her shoulders shrugged as she went upstairs to her bedroom for a change of clothes. She just got her shirt over her head when she noticed the bracelet sitting on her desk. Daunting, it sat there under the lamp, the light outlined the iris of the evil eye. A shiver ran along her shoulders as she closed the gap between her and the bracelet and snatched it from on top of the desk.
The Evil eye bracelet will follow, the woman told Sophie. It will ward off the evil spirits down there in the woods, the woman said. Sophie digested this information uneasily. She didn’t want any ancient bracelet to ward off evil ghosts, or whatever the old lady was babbling about. So she left before ever receiving the gift. So how is it that it’s here? In her bedroom. On her desk.
Mum, Sophie searched the house for her parents but they were still nowhere in sight. She turned the heat down on the turkey because she could smell it starting to burn. She held the bracelet in her palm, squeezing it as if to cancel out its…
