Social Meaty ah!
I’m a little confused. I enjoy reading stories and other posts on Medium, but I’m seriously overwhelmed with places for social media-type outlets.
I’m “old” so I spend most of my time on Facebook, I want to be “young” but I still have a hard time fitting into the Twitter world [#WhatTheHellAmIDoing] , and I already have my own blog on a personal website (though I haven’t written on it in a while). Snapchat? I like it but I only have 10 friends on it, and none of those people actually use it. Instagram works somewhat for me… I can be brainless and try to say something with just an image. And now I’m dipping my toe into Medium.
I really do love to write though. Back in the 2000’s, I blogged my ass off; religiously, daily, it was a huge part of my life. Hell, I think I spent more time writing about my life than I did actually living it, in those years… sort of. Let’s just say, I was part of that blogger club that got eaten up once Facebook and the other 140 Character sites that took over.
Like many in those years, I started my blogging addiction on LiveJournal but then I realized it would be better for me if I did it under my own name and domain; I looked at it as a chance for extra PR for my music.
If You Blog It, They Will Come.
As a singer/songwriter/starving artist, I wrote the daily blog and it did bring in people, and I made some great friends that way. At one point, I was getting thousands of readers each day. I don’t think they were really fans of the music, though some were, but people seemed to like the writing. Perhaps they were more interested in the story of trying to rise to fame and fortune rather than what I was actually selling, but it all worked together. I’m not really sure what I’m getting at, but those where good days for me.
So here I am again, jotting down more than 140 Characters. I’m conflicted a bit though… I mean, if I’m going to start blogging again, wouldn’t it be best done on my own personal site to bring people there? Or does any of that even matter? Medium seems to have its own circle of readers and authors that remind me of being back in the blogger days. I guess the way to figure it out is to take this outlet for a spin.
Truthfully, I don’t have the time to write publicly like I used to, but I guess I’ll see how this works. I might end up just going back to my personal blog or sticking to where all the old people hang out; Facebook. :)
On a side note, I have started writing my memoirs. Most of my spare-writing-time has been going to chapters on that. Perhaps one day I’ll put that out there.
Now let me go click some “Likes” on my newsfeed.
