Packaging and Messaging.

They seek what they believe are good packages — preferably candidates who are female or people of color. Few white men aside from established incumbents like Mr. Schumer.

The messaging will be primarily their identity politics schtick, trying to gin up turnout in this subgroup and that subgroup. They will do so with feel-good pablum but little or nothing in the way of concrete policy proposals they have no intention of pursuing after the campaign. (They are writing off the deplorables, e.g., most white men.)

A fundamental reason for this is that the Democrats avoid talking about their actual agenda — neoliberal economic policies and neocon foreign policies. They cannot make an honest assessment of their party because they don’t want the people to know who they really are. They want voters to associate them with feel-good feelings and inclusive rhetoric.
