A Song of Poop and Fire: Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits Celebrate 25 Years of Toe-Tapping Musical Discomfort

Is…is this thing on?
Hi there, friends and fans! It’s your old pals Dan and Corbett from Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits! It’s been a while since we last spoke, and hooboy, where do we even begin? The world’s gotten way weirder in our absence, and we, like most of you, have been just trying to keep our heads above water — with mixed results. So maybe we’ll skip over the horrifying fractal shit-stack of current events for just a moment, and try to focus on Bobby Joe Ebola- related happenings you might want to hear about. There are a couple of recent developments we want to tell you about, and we’d like to peek ahead to the future of all things Bobby Joe.
First, we got our music back! Yayyyyy!
Wait, what? Where was it, you ask?
Well, it hasn’t really gone anywhere. For several years now, you’ve been able to find nearly our complete discography in just about every format you might want; Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Youtube Music, etc. (scroll to the bottom of this piece for a full list of our links)
A lot of you have asked us over the years whether we make anything from online sales when you play us on your digital music subscriptions. And the answer we gave was usually a wiggly hand and a grimace: “kinda…?”
What happened was that a few years ago, the label which helped get us on all those platforms got bought by a bigger company, and continued to take about 60% of everything we were making in online sales. It took a long time and there was a lot of red tape to wade through, but now we have the full rights to our music again.
So what that means is, when you’re working at the bar or cafe and you put “Life is Excellent” on endless repeat to make your customers melt down, we get 100% of the cut, whatever tiny fraction of a penny that might be. But it adds up, friends!
Another cool development is that you can now use clips of our songs on Instagram and FACEBOOK Stories and TikTok. And we get a teensy amount of revenue for that as well. This may not be the utopian Star Trek future we were promised, but in this timeline we can use every scrap of good news we can get.
It’s not as though we’re going to get rich from this; a year of online sales pays for keeping our website up and running, allows us to re-order merch here and there, with a little left over to buy extra-absorbent pillowcases to soak up our nightly nerd-tears. But y’know, if every single one of our fans posted BJE videos and music every single day, & left their Spotify Bobby Joe Ebola channels running 24/7…well, we might be hundred-aires, and the Internet would be a much nicer place at the very least. So go forth, Internet friends, and work our music into every online conversation you have!
Meanwhile, time marches on. Recently it was pointed out to us that next year marks 25 years since the band first formed in June of 1995 in a Burger King parking lot. We had to chew on that one for a bit. TWENTY FIVE FORKING YEARS. Why, that’s our silver anniversary! It seems like we ought to do something to commemorate the occasion. So each week, from now until the end of next year, we’ll be posting lyrics to a song from our discography, along with videos if we have them, and any commentary or trivia about the song. With well over 100 songs published (and more than that unpublished), that should take us all the way through 2020 with quite a few songs left over.
There’s other stuff bubbling up from the MacNuggit Cinematic Ebolaverse, but we’ve given you enough to chew on for the moment, yes? So stay tuned to this space.
Nobody’s ever really gone, friends. We’ve always been here, making fart noises into the howling winds of the Apocalypse. And you can fart along with us. And if enough of you fart with us, hot and loud, wet and proud, we can make even the black-cowled Horsemen of the Apocalypse wrinkle their spectral noses in disgust, turn their skeletal steeds around, and fuck right off.
Until that day, friends and fans, be excellent to each other. We love you and are so grateful for the opportunity to make music and community with y’all. Talk to you soon.
Love,
Dan & Corbett
