Makeup is meant to enhance your features not totally change and bring negative attention to you. Everyone has heard the term less is more and it couldn’t ring more true than when it comes to makeup. Below are some steps of what can be applied in a “buildable” fashion. Start out light, you can always add to it:

Step#1- Avoid wearing too much

1) Eyeliner: All eyes are shaped differently. Eyeliner can make your eye look smaller if you make it too thick and add too much. Use an eyeliner pencil or brush and to make thinner lines. For a more natural look try using browns instead of black. Adding a white liner to the under lid will give your eyes pop and make them look bigger and softer.

2) Mascara: Too much mascara looks fake and will flake. Make sure you take the time to separate your lashes, sometimes too much mascara causes clumping.

3) Foundation: The key to choosing the right foundation is to know what undertone you are. Look at your veins if you have blue or purple veins you have cool undertones, blue-green veins are neutral undertones and green or olive veins are warm undertones. Make sure you’ve tested your foundation on your jawbone or chest to get the best match. Testing on your neck will get the best results because it doesn’t get as much sun as your face or chest. Getting a color that is one shade darker or lighter will not give you a natural look. BLEND BLEND BLEND, don’t just stop at your jawbone, take the foundation all the way down your neck. The magic word is “blend”.

Step#2- Lips

Apply concealer to completely cover the lips, blend it out. This gives you a blank canvas to work with. Line your natural lip with lip liner, make sure to blend it into your lips (not outside). Try sticking to colors that compliment your undertones; cool, neutral or warm. Cool undertones do well with corals and oranges. Neutral undertones do well with pinks and mauves. Warm undertones work well with cool based reds or deep burgundies. For a clean fresh look try a soft lip color and top it off with a gloss or a hydrating chapstick.

Step#3- Appropriate makeup

Wear makeup that is appropriate for the occasion. Daywear and evening wear should be worn differently. Daytime makeup should often highlight natural features and promote a fresh and awake appearance. Avoid using false eyelashes for daytime. Instead, curl your lashes and use a combination of volumizing mascara at the ends and lengthening mascara at the roots.

Step#4- Too little or no makeup

Some women don’t wear makeup because they are not sure how to use it and are afraid of being overdone. Start with the basics; moisturizer, foundation, blush, mascara. As you get more comfortable you can start playing with color and incorporate one product at a time.

Step#5- Overall look

When your makeup is completed it should look natural. That means avoiding harsh colors. If you have dark skin and dark hair you will look better in darker shades; light colors will make you look washed out. If your hair and skin tone are light, light colors will look better on you. Dark makeup will do the opposite of a natural look.

Step#6- Setting Spray

Set your makeup. There are tons of choices when it comes to finishing spray. We recommend Evian Mineral spray it hydrates, tones, and refreshes skin throughout the day with mineral water.

Step#7- One last thing

Keep makeup looking fresh all day by doing regular touch-ups. Don’t let your makeup fade or crease. Smile! You are Beautiful!
