Welcoming Brett Queener to the Bonfire Team

At Bonfire Ventures, we invest almost exclusively in early-stage startups with a code-based product and a business buyer (“B2B software” for short, but not just enterprise software or SaaS). We strive constantly to enhance the expertise and network that specifically applies to these types of businesses, and to bring that expertise and network to bear for the benefit of the founders and executives who select us as their investor. Our objective is for Bonfire Ventures to be the VC of choice for founders who have choices.

In support of this objective, we could not be more pleased to welcome Brett Queener to the Bonfire Team as a Venture Partner. Brett’s entire career has been focused on growing software companies — fast. Most recently from 2013–2016, Brett served as COO at SmartRecruiters, where he partnered with the founder to work through the “hard things about hard things” and converted a pre-revenue company into the fastest growing and highest rated enterprise player in the recruiting technology space.

Prior to SmartRecruiters, Brett spent more than a decade at Salesforce.com, the bellwether and pioneer of SaaS and the most valuable pure SaaS company on the planet. There, he served in a variety of senior leadership roles in Sales, R&D, and Operations focused on driving company growth and expansion across market segments and product categories. Select titles held at Salesforce included VP of Field Operations, SVP Operations, SVP Products, EVP/GM of Data Cloud, and EVP/GM of Marketing Cloud. Prior to Salesforce.com, Brett held senior marketing and business development at Siebel Systems (acquired by Oracle).

We’ve seen Brett in action and collaborated with him for almost five years as an independent member of the Board of Directors at portfolio company Invoca. There, Brett’s experience, instincts, leadership counsel, and network (he helped source and land outstanding CEO Gregg Johnson) have been invaluable.

In addition, Brett has served on the investment Committee of the most recent fund of predecessor firm Rincon Venture Partners for the past 18 months. It’s been a pleasure collaborating with Brett on investment opportunities, and we wanted his involvement to continue and expand as we transitioned new investment activity over to Bonfire.

Brett is an active seed investor and advisor to numerous software entrepreneurs. He currently serves on the boards of SmartRecruiters, Pendo, Lytics, and Invoca. He has invested additionally as an angel in MOAT (acquired by Oracle for over $850mm per Recode), Yespath (acquired by Medium), Guru, Outreach, Postie, ROAM Analytics and others.

At Bonfire, Brett will help us source and evaluate investment opportunities, and provide guidance and counsel to companies in the portfolio. We have heard more than once from founders, after arranging for them to meet with Brett, that it was one of the most helpful conversations that they’d ever had about growing their startups and overcoming the challenges they were facing.

We know that the leadership teams of the companies we support will benefit tremendously from Brett’s involvement.
