IS THE LORD TRULY YOUR SHEPHERD? (Let's discuss Psalms 23).

Psalms 23 is a very popular and interesting passage. Most people can recite it without looking at their Bibles. But do we fully understand what David was saying?
Well let me explain what David meant verse by verse.

1)Psalms 23:1
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want.
Who is a Shepherd?
A person who tends or takes care of sheep, especially a grazing flock.
This is basically the most important verse in the whole of chapter 23. If you miss what David was saying here you miss everything.
In saying "The Lord is my Shepherd" David simply meant
*You are the one that takes care me.
*You are the one that tells me WHERE TO GO AND I FOLLOW.
*You are the one that brings me back to the right path when something else tries to take me away from your flock.
*When you give me an instruction or direct me I don't refuse because you are wiser and you know what and where is best for me.
*As I do all that I know for sure that I won't lack anything because when I FOLLOW YOU , you know where all the things I need exist.
The truth is that most of the time we recite this passage without knowing exactly what our role as the sheep is. We NEED to OBEY the INSTRUCTIONS of our SHEPHERD . When he tells you to do something just do it! He knows what is best for you. Most of the time we neglect the voice and direction of the Shepherd but want the benefits of verse 2-6 in Psalms 23. The most important verse in verse 1 DON'T FORGET!

2) Psalms 23:2-6
When a Shepherd is leading his sheep. He leads them where he knows there is enough food for them and he let's them eat well when they get there but the sheep first of all must follow the instructions and directions of the Shepherd. They must go where the Shepard wants. God is leading you to abundance and rest, you are the sheep, follow the Shepherds voice! He knows where He is leading you!
When the sheep is down and injured the Shepherd knows what medication to give to it AS LONG AS YOU ARE WITH HIM, it's the same with God! When ever you have any situation that wants to disturb you and break you down, the Shepherd knows how to fix you.. He will restore you!
When trouble comes just like the Shepherd will defend the Sheep THAT REMAINS in his flock by following his INSTRUCTIONS, God will deliver you as you WALK WITH HIM! Because God knows where all the goodies in life are, even your enemies, those that want you to fail will all be surprised that you are doing so well! All these things come down to simply following the instructions and directions of our Shepherd, Jesus!
When you read John 10 you see Jesus calling Himself the good Shepherd! In John 10:14 He says "I am the good Shepherd ;I know my sheep and my sheep know me! In 10:27-29 Jesus says My sheep know listen to my voice ; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no-one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me is greater than all; no-one can snatch them out my Father's hand.

Maybe you are a sheep that has gone away.. A runaway sheep! You have refused to listen to the instructions of the ONE TRUE SHEPHERD! You have decided to do things your way.. It's time to come back! You see Jesus Loves you so much, He has been calling you back all along, when you went astray, He never gave up on you. He wants you back!! He says in John 10:16 "I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen(the ones that have refused to listen to Him and are not in his flock. He still calls them His own) I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one Shepherd! Praise God!! Listen to Him today! Come back! His plans for you are way better than you will ever know.
All the blessings and confessions of Psalms 23 are yours but you need to listen to the Shepherds voice and carry out His instructions!! Listen and Obey!!!
