THEME : ATTRACTING THE HELP OF GOD SERIES (6)
TOPIC : GIVING GLORY TO GOD/ REMEMBERING WHAT HE HAS DONE BEFORE.
TEXT : 1 Samuel 17:27-52
Memory verse : 1 Samuel 17:37,47
[37]David said, The Lord Who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and the Lord be with you!
[47]And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord's, and He will give you into our hands.
To attract the help of God in any circumstance in your life, you need to learn to give glory to God.
Our text today is about when David was about facing Goliath. David a young Shepard without any battle experience wanted to fight the biggest oppressor of Israel. Everyone must have thought, David was going to be crushed by Goliath but then David understood who his God and knew exactly how to attract his help in the face of this mighty battle!
David went into that battle with the mindset that since he have faced and killed a lion and a bear that wanted to take his sheep, he will surely be able to kill Goliath an even bigger problem. But the truth is this David was HUMBLE! I say this because, when he fought the lion and the bear, no one was there to watch him, so he could easily claim he did it all alone, but David had the understanding that it was God who gave him the victory over the lion and the bear.
David believed that the God who gave him victory in the secret over the lion and the bear will also give him victory publicly over a national problem!
When Saul wanted to discourage David from fighting he made it known to him that the God who delivered him before will still deliver him. David never claimed the victory over the lion and the bear for himself, He gave all the glory to God.
How many times has God done something in your life and you chose to take credit for it?
When you are faced with challenges, you have to look back and give glory to God for what he has done before believing he will still show up for you.
What would have happened if David claimed the victory over the bears for himself, I am very he would have faced Goliath on his own! But because he gave the glory for the previous battles won to God, God was definitely going to help him win again!
James 4:6 says
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Learn to give GLORY to God for your past victories in the midst of your present battles, believing the God of God who gave you victory before will do it again!
Prayer:
In the name of Jesus, Father I thank you for everything you have done for me in the past (name them) and I believe that you who gave me victory in the past is more than capable of giving me victory in this my present situation (name them).
