Serenbe officials announced this week they’ve broken ground on the first phase of a $250-million, mixed-use venture that should add a new walkable dimension to the southwest-OTP agrarian utopia.

The development — dubbed “Mado” — will eventually include almost every function under the mixed-use umbrella: commercial office space, multiple restaurants, apartments, homes, townhouses, and a “destination” spa and hotel, officials said.

Early previews suggest Mado could resemble a quaint European hamlet, with no shortage of sociable, Southern-style porches.
