The curb appeal, at least, is through the roof
Unless the ancestral owners of this Grant Park relic were fond of scouting Home Depot discount aisles in the year 1900, the listing agent earns a pants-on-fire finger-wag for the statement, “True to the Original Character!!!”
Be let’s focus on the positives first.
From the Park Avenue corner it presides over, just north of Interstate 20, this butter-colored Victorian simply exudes curb appeal, with its intricate trim work, porch swing, and stately countenance.
Inside, things begin well with the beautiful foyer staircase and glimpses of restored original woodwork galore. But elsewhere throughout these nearly 4,500 square feet, choices in everything from floor tile, vanities, chandeliers, granite, and wall-removal — while perfectly conducive to human habitation — seem to compromise the historical integrity.
On the bright side, there’s continuity: The tiling of one fireplace surround matches that of the kitchen floor — and front walkway.
The $689,000 price bags four bedrooms, three and 1⁄2 bathrooms, seven unique fireplaces (each with a different style, for better or worse), and an oversized back deck that strangely isn’t pictured. In the last couple of years the home’s been listed for as high as $779,000. But no dice.
