For Artists, By Artists
If anyone acknowledges the cold hard truth about the industry of entertaining — that it is not fair to the artists, or just not fair at all — the normal response of the majority will be, “Suck it up, others have done it.” Yes, this is true. Others have given all they had into their craft and even sold away a piece of their own self-respect and rights to get their art in the hands of their audience. Some have sacrificed entire lifestyles to make it independently. While the end result did become wonderful for those few out of many who have tried, should it really be so difficult to have a career of expressing yourself? It doesn’t matter whether you are a musician, a writer, a painter, photographer, or comedian. The way things are set up for us, you’re going to get screwed.
I know, it sounds harsh, but that’s what it is. Remember Shakespeare, the guy who is said to have written all those plays some time ago? You know who I’m talking about. Shakespeare sold his plays to the theatre, and he received a nice sum, but whatever the company made from his play afterward, was theirs alone. Things have gotten better, but not yet have we seen the best. What is the best solution for artists, independent or not?
A platform that does not take a percentage of each sale or work. A marketplace where they can stick their head out and be seen amongst their fellow artists by the entire world. Where they will keep 100% of the rights and income of their work. Where they can interact with their audience and sell their stories by the slice. Where they are the artist, theatre owner, and the priority. Where the buyer’s experience is a partnership and a joy.
Does it exist?
