Best Things To Do In San Francisco: Day II
The tour continues with the best things to do on your second day here!

When movies want to establish that they’re set in San Francisco (even if they’re really shot on a soundstage in Vancouver), they always show a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge. But the bridge isn’t just a scene-setting cliche; it’s a century-old feat of modern engineering that looks just as gorgeous today as it did when it was built. The best way to experience the bridge is to cross it yourself, preferably via method slightly slower than a car. Today, we’re tackling the bridge via bicycle and riding all the way to Sausalito, a charming hillside town with a Mediterranean air.
10 AM: Walk at Fisherman’s Wharf

Though still an active fishing port, Fisherman’s Wharf has evolved into a garish carnival of tourism. Nevertheless, there are diamonds in the rough here that are worth a visit. The famous row of seafood stands can be pricy, but when Dungeness crabs are in season (November to December), they’re a prime place to score the quintessentially West Coast crustaceans. Plus, the bubbling vats of crabs always make for a great photo op. If Dungeness isn’t in season, head to Cioppino for a bowl of their eponymous seafood stew, a ruddy concoction that was perfected (if not invented) here in San Francisco. Also, there are several bike shops in this area where you can rent a pair of wheels.
12 PM: Lunch at the Warming Hut

The best way to get here from Fisherman’s Wharf is to bicycle along the beach. As you ride, you’ll watch the crowds and neon fade away as if you’re heading into true countryside instead of a state park. The Park Service operates this cafe and bookstore within one of its historical, turn-of-the-century buildings. As the name suggests, you can get a warming cup of coffee or hot chocolate here alongside pastries, sandwiches, and other simple staples. It’s a great place to fuel up before tackling the Golden Gate Bridge.
