If you’ve been inspired to purchase a bottle of Mizu Shochu after reading this post, here are a few cocktails that feature the spirit.

Jade & Ginger

Created by Mizu Shochu proper – the inclusion of Domaine de Canton ginger in this recipe makes it pretty indulgent and pricey, but damn if it doesn’t sound amazing.
2oz. Mizu Shochu
0.75oz. Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur
Small squeeze fresh lemon juice
Top with 1.5oz. ocha unsweetened green tea
Build in a rocks glass on ice.
(Garnish with crystallized ginger if you’re really feelin’ it.)

Grapefruit Sawa

Created by Anonymous #13
2oz. Mizu Shochu
1oz. ruby red grapefruit juice
0.25oz. bitter Italian aperitif (think Campari)
0.25oz. lime juice
Build in a collin’s glass on ice.
Garnish with grapefruit wheel.

Neguloni

Created by Brett Hughes, this cocktail was my introduction to Mizu Shochu.
1.5oz. Mizu Shochu
0.75oz. sweet vermouth
0.25oz. bitter Italian aperitif (again, Campari)
Dash grapefruit bitters
Stir on ice, and strain over large format ice (those big honking square cubes that take up an entire rocks glass) if you have it.
Garnish with grapefruit wheel.

Five Fortunes

Created by Joji Watanabe, this was one of the cocktails I was lucky enough to try at the Mizu tasting I attended.
2oz. Mizu Shochu
5oz. Japanese plum wine
2 drops Ki Japanese Arboreal bitters
Stir on ice, strain into martini or coupe glass.
Garnish with thin slice of cucumber.

Five Fortunes cocktail

Kampai!
