Introducing New Pricing for Box Platform

Over the past year, thousands of developers have built secure, immersive, and interactive content experiences in their apps using Box Platform. Our goal is to bring cloud content management to every application, and our team has been working on new ways to make Box Platform even more accessible. Today, we’re excited to announce a new pricing model for Box Platform.

When building the new model, we focused on making it as easy as possible for developers to start building with Box Platform, regardless of the size of the project, and grow with us over time. We wanted to make sure that developers only paid for the value that they were receiving and charged for the resources that they needed.

As a result, our new model includes resources — such as monthly active App Users (MAUs), API calls, storage, and bandwidth — that are available in bundles, so that you only pay for the number of bundles required to meet your app’s needs. If you find yourself needing additional resources, you can purchase them a la carte, allowing you to only pay for your application’s exact usage. Last but not least, our free Developer Tier allows you to experiment with Box Platform and build proof-of-concept apps on the fly.

The new pricing model for Box Platform is:

• Scalable: You pay for the bundles of resources your app needs each month. Bundles consist of MAUs, API calls, storage, and bandwidth. As you purchase higher quantities of bundles, the per-bundle cost decreases. You can also start building on our Developer Tier for free.
• Customizable: If you need additional resources, such as additional GBs of storage or API calls, you can license them a la carte to fit your needs. You can also mix-and-match individual resources such as API calls and bandwidth for certain use cases.
• Predictable: You estimate resource consumption and license on a forward-looking basis, with options for short- and long-term contracts. Resource consumption is normalized over the duration of your contract to account for periods of increased or decreased usage. If you exceed your resource entitlements, you will not be penalized and will simply true-up at your current usage in the next contract term. So, you can start small and license additional resources as your app grows.
