Also known as offshore boat fishing and big game fishing, deep sea fishing is a type of angling that requires water depths of at least 30 meters. Participation in the sport results in much larger catches than normal shallow water fishing, including sharks, marlin, and swordfish. There are several different deep sea fishing methods that can be employed, depending on the desired catch.

Bottom Fishing — A form of fishing that targets fish that dwell on the ocean floor, such as snapper and grouper.

Trolling — A technique in which a boat tows a fishing line along the water’s surface to catch fish that feed near the surface such as kingfish and mackerel.

Offshore Fishing — Deep sea fishing that takes place furthest off the shoreline amongst large waves and deep waters. Offshore fishing primarily targets marlin, tuna, mahi-mahi, and wahoo.
